Topic 1: My best photojournalism 1) the best photo i've taken this term: 2) This photo stood out to me because I framed the 2 girls faces on the left with the fence, and you can see their expressions really well. It also has nice colors and is focused well.  3) This reflects what I learned because I learned that it was important to have faces in the picture and to capture expressions.  4) My photo skills have improved because now I feel a lot more comfortable with taking pictures of people. Like in the beginning of the term, when I took my first photo for this class, it took me like 20 minutes to work up the courage to go up to a stranger and take their photo. Now it is a lot easier for me to invade someones personal space, although it still makes me uncomfortable.  T opic 2: My goals From week 1: " One of my goals in this class is to better my relationship with photojournalism and maybe come out with better feelings towards it, instead of ones of dread. Addario memoir parts 3 and 4 My top 2 favorite chapters in the second half of the book are chapters 7 and 9. I find these the 2 most compelling chapters because they both made me want to keep reading. Chapter 7 I liked a lot because it was kind of different from the rest because she did talk about war in Africa, but she took a different approach to talking about it by looking at how the women were affected. It also had some action and suspense with her having the issue with running out of water. I wanted to keep reading to know what happened. My most favorite chapter though is chapter 9. There is a lot of character development with the people that she was with. I felt attached to them as well. that chapter just goes over her experience in Afghanistan in the Korengal valley. She is having to deal with her friend's pregnancy as well with the stereotypes that the soldiers have for her not being able to carry her own and being seen as a dead weight. The soldier that we get kind of cl

Topic 1- Two tips for shooting sports that stood out to me in Karl's presentation: 1) Get pictures from different angels. Its important to get a different perspective than other photographers. You have to think outside the box. Also, getting a low angle with sports pictures makes it easier to get pictures of the people's faces, which is the next thing I took away from his talk: 2) Get the subject's eyes in the picture. The photo is boring if the subject is looking away and you can't see their face or eyes. It is important for there to be emotion in the picture.  Topic 2- Action/ sports photos 1) My sports subject is the Woman's basketball team at practice.  2) They had practice in the Activity Center on November 16th at 4. 3) overall- all of the players gathered around on the court medium- 3 players tossing the ball to each other close up- one or 2 players shooting the ball into the hoop

Lynsey Addario Book Report

Image
Book Report In Lynsey Addario’s book, she feels a sense of duty to report the things that she does in these dangerous war zones. I personally cannot relate to how she feels about her work. I do not have any interest in risking my life in order to get a picture, no matter how amazing or potentially world changing it might be. She has several experiences where she almost loses her life, for example, in chapter 5, specifically on page 120, she describes an attack in Iraq where she was taking photos, and she left at just the right time. A car bomb went off right where she was standing, and it killed a fellow journalist that was standing right next to her seconds before. For her, she took that as a sign of her good luck, but I would have taken that as a sign to get out of there for good. She was pushing her luck going back to war zones so many times, and she is lucky she didn’t end up like the man she met later in the book, Larry Rougle, whose luck ran out on his sixth tour in Iraq a
