To pic : Lynsey Addario So far in Lynsey's book, I am really impressed with how she keeps coming across things that would normally scare other people away and they wouldn't want to do that job anymore, but she is so dedicated to what she does, that she is still willing to do it, even when she comes close to death, like when the car bomb went off seconds after she walked away and a fellow journalist was killed. something that left an impression on me, not necessarily a good one, was how she and her boyfriend got back together even though he was cheating on her. She was so desperate to have someone with her when she came home that she settled for something that is definitely less than ideal (in my opinion anyways). She has made a compromised her personal life for her photojournalism. Week 8 Forum

Addario memoir parts 3 and 4 My top 2 favorite chapters in the second half of the book are chapters 7 and 9. I find these the 2 most compelling chapters because they both made me want to keep reading. Chapter 7 I liked a lot because it was kind of different from the rest because she did talk about war in Africa, but she took a different approach to talking about it by looking at how the women were affected. It also had some action and suspense with her having the issue with running out of water. I wanted to keep reading to know what happened. My most favorite chapter though is chapter 9. There is a lot of character development with the people that she was with. I felt attached to them as well. that chapter just goes over her experience in Afghanistan in the Korengal valley. She is having to deal with her friend's pregnancy as well with the stereotypes that the soldiers have for her not being able to carry her own and being seen as a dead weight. Photographer of the week- Edward Weston

Born on March 24, 1886 in Illinois Edward Weston grew up in Chicago. He began doing photography at the age of 16 when his father gave him his first camera. He started out taking photos of parks and his aunt's farm. He moved to California in 1906 where he started being a traveling photographer, taking pictures of children, pets, and funerals. In 1908, he went to the  the Illinois College of Photography. He finished the 12 month long course in 6 months, and then went back to California. In 1909, he started working in portrait studios. He got married and had 4 kids, and then opened his own studio in 1911. He won many awards for his portraits. In 1922, he visited the ARMCO Steel Plant in Middletown, Ohio, and  the photos he took there “marked a turning point in [his] career.” He went from doing portraits do doing more abstract photos.
