Week 1 Forum

1) About me- My name is Emily Taylor. I am studying to get my general associates degree and I am going into the veterinary assistant program. I took this class because I had a bad experience with a photojournalism class in high school and I wanted to give it a second chance. I have taken 2 film photography classes and 2 digital photography classes in high school, and 1 other photojournalism class where I was a photographer for my schools newspaper, and I am currently in another digital photography class at LBCC. I have won 2 awards with my pictures, and I have gotten 2 paid gigs as a photographer: a wedding, and a band photoshoot.

2) Goals- One of my goals in this class is to better my relationship with photojournalism and maybe come out with better feelings towards it, instead of ones of dread. Another goal is to get over my fear of taking pictures of people and to feel a little more comfortable doing it. My last goal is to just generally improve my photography skills.

3) LBCC photos- One subject for a photo could be the reopening of the hot shot cafe and the people performing there during lunch time next week. Another subject could be the home volleyball game on Saturday. I could take pictures before, during, and after the game. Also, I could take pictures at the poetry club on Tuesday.

Topic 1- possible portrait subjects Melissia Willhoite She owns and runs 2 child daycares. She is passionate about kids. She has 4 of her own and loves being around them. The best environment to photograph her in would be in her daycare. Some props could be toys on the ground and in the background, or an actual kid. She does daycare for my cousins kid, so I could get her number from her, or I could just get it from online and give her a call. Another person I could take photos of could be one of the chefs that are going to be at the vegan festival I am going to this weekend. I don't have any information on them, but I could meet with them in person and schedule a time to meet with them and take pictures in their own kitchen. Topic 2- 1) The best photo that I have taken so far, in my opinion, is the close up photo in week one. Topic 1: My best photojournalism 1) the best photo i've taken this term: 2) This photo stood out to me because I framed the 2 girls faces on the left with the fence, and you can see their expressions really well. It also has nice colors and is focused well.  3) This reflects what I learned because I learned that it was important to have faces in the picture and to capture expressions.  4) My photo skills have improved because now I feel a lot more comfortable with taking pictures of people. Like in the beginning of the term, when I took my first photo for this class, it took me like 20 minutes to work up the courage to go up to a stranger and take their photo.
