Topic :Lynsey Addario
So far in Lynsey's book, I am really impressed with how she keeps coming across things that would normally scare other people away and they wouldn't want to do that job anymore, but she is so dedicated to what she does, that she is still willing to do it, even when she comes close to death, like when the car bomb went off seconds after she walked away and a fellow journalist was killed. something that left an impression on me, not necessarily a good one, was how she and her boyfriend got back together even though he was cheating on her. She was so desperate to have someone with her when she came home that she settled for something that is definitely less than ideal (in my opinion anyways). She has made a compromised her personal life for her photojournalism. My favorite quote is from when she was taking pictures of the american soldiers, and they pointed her guns at her and told her to go away; "We were allowed to cover only what the people with guns wanted us to see." I feel like this is something that is relevant in not only war times, but also every day. It seems like censorship is becoming more of a problem today. Some things are covered up that shouldn't have to be, just because "the people with guns" don't like it. One of my favorite photos is the one on the bottom of page 181. I like this on because it is very impactful. The skeleton shows the death and destruction that is going on.

Topic 1- possible portrait subjects Melissia Willhoite She owns and runs 2 child daycares. She is passionate about kids. She has 4 of her own and loves being around them. The best environment to photograph her in would be in her daycare. Some props could be toys on the ground and in the background, or an actual kid. She does daycare for my cousins kid, so I could get her number from her, or I could just get it from online and give her a call. Another person I could take photos of could be one of the chefs that are going to be at the vegan festival I am going to this weekend. I don't have any information on them, but I could meet with them in person and schedule a time to meet with them and take pictures in their own kitchen. Topic 1: My best photojournalism 1) the best photo i've taken this term: 2) This photo stood out to me because I framed the 2 girls faces on the left with the fence, and you can see their expressions really well. It also has nice colors and is focused well.  3) This reflects what I learned because I learned that it was important to have faces in the picture and to capture expressions.  4) My photo skills have improved because now I feel a lot more comfortable with taking pictures of people. Like in the beginning of the term, when I took my first photo for this class, it took me like 20 minutes to work up the courage to go up to a stranger and take their photo. Now it is a lot easier for me to invade someones personal space, although it still makes me uncomfortable.  T opic 2: My goals From week 1: " One of my goals in this class is to better my relationship with photojournalism and maybe come out with better feelings towards it, instead of ones of dread.
